The school is accredited by the New York State Department of Education and the Middle States Association. The school is consistently ranked as one of the top 100 public high schools in the country.
A graduation requirement of 60 hours of community service was implemented in 1989.[2]
Student clubs and activities include Photography Club, Academic Challenge, Environmental Club, Fitness Club, handbell choir, international club, jazz band, mock trial, Model U.N., National Honor Society, National Music Honor Society, student council, SUSTAIN (Students Undertaking Services to Aid Those in Need), Parsons Street Players (theater), VAASA (Varsity Athletes Against Substance Abuse), and GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance).
Student publications include El Faro, a magazine of articles written in French, Latin, and Spanish; Garnet & Black, the school newspaper; Spectrum, a student writing magazine; Stagecoach, the yearbook; and Zephyr, a literary magazine. The school also has a drama club, the Parson Street Players, that performs 5 shows per year
Rye High School fields teams in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and wrestling. The football team has won 3 state championships including 2 in a row (2007, 2008), and the basketball team won its league with a 17-6 record in 2009 and went to the Westchester County Center.
The annual Rye-Harrison football game has been played for more than seventy-five years and is a top rivalry in Westchester County. The Rye High School team has defeated Harrison for a record nine consecutive meetings. Harrison leads the all-time series with a record of 42-37-3.
